The Best and Only Cigar Lighters For the Job
The best cigar lighters for lighting your cigars are those that use butane. At least that's what many a cigar aficionado believes, and I agree. Butane lighters are odorless and can be found in the form of cheap disposables or luxurious ones costing thousands. Do not even consider using a lighter that uses lighter fluid. The taste of the fuel will destroy your smoke. There are some aficionados who swear by the wooden match. This is a fine way to light a cigar. Just make sure the sulfur burns off the tip before applying. Some love this for the ritual alone, and as you know or soon will, ritual plays a large role in cigar smoking.
I happen to own a colibri cigar lighter (the one in the picture). This is a butane torch lighter and a cigar accessory that has been one of my favorites. Unlike a match, this torch lighter withstands wind and rain, while providing an extremely powerful flame.A word of caution when it comes to butane torchlighters.... do not point it anywhere near your face or body. There's a reason they call this a torch lighter. The flame burns light blue and in many cases looks almost invisible, especially during the day. Make no mistake, this burns hotter and reaches further than you probably imagine. Being the type who will smoke a good cigar down to my fingertips, you can imagine my surprise the first time I went to re-light one of my short smokes with my torch lighter. My lips and nose felt like they were burnt to a crisp. Thankfully no real damage was done, but my beautiful mug could've been permanently ruined! As it was, I had a nose like Rudolph the next day. If your new to a torch lighter, practice by holding your cigar in your hand, and while slowly turning it, light it with the torch. This will give you a good idea as to the distance you will need when lighting up the cigar in your mouth. This will not only save your cigars from being overcooked, but keep your beautiful face burn free. Before you know it, you'll be lighting up like a pro! Bare in mind that these butane torch lighters are hot enough to ignite a cigar even if the flame is more than an inch away. You can purchase lighters many places. Your local smoke shop or online cigar shop is as good as any. If your new to cigar lighters, I suggest you check out a retail store, like the local smoke shop we mentioned above. This way you can handle them and check them out. If they're too expensive, you can always go back to your online cigar shop. If the price is in the ballpark, give your local retailer the business, after all they let you handle the merchandise.
The colibri cigar lighter which I have now had for about a year is called the Quantum. This lights without the aid of batteries or flint. It has been a fantastic cigar lighter. I paid $32.95 in my local smoke shop. Okay ladies and gentleman, what do you say about enjoying a good smoke? I have a La Rosa Cuban Torpedo that I'm dying to try. So.... I'll be talking to you later.
