The Best Cigar Travel Cases For Protecting Your Cigars

The importance of cigar travel cases eluded me until the day I crushed two of my favorite cigars in my coat pocket. There was a battle between them and my car seat belt, with the seat belt winning.

I'm a fan of the leather cigar case.

When looking for a leather cigar case, look for one which is thick enough to properly protect your cigars, but can fit into the smallest pocket you would be carrying them in. If you usually put your cigar case in your pocketbook or briefcase, you just need to concern yourself with it's quality, style, and sturdiness.

Cigar cases come in various sizes. These can be made to hold one cigar or upwards to five.

The inside should not have a strong leather smell. Although leather cigar travel cases are made for holding and protecting your cigars for short periods of time (day trips mostly), your cigar can still pick up the smell of leather and ruin the intended taste of your smoke.

A liner on the inside of the leather cigar case is preferable, but the thick cardboard tubes (metal in some) that come with many of these for added protection, can also serve to keep the cigar from becoming permeated with the leather.

Make sure you purchase cigar cases which can accommodate the largest cigars you smoke comfortably. You can always put a small cigar in a large ring slot, but not the other way around. If you don't have enough room, you will ruin the wrappers on your cigars.

If you require more space, if it comes with the tubes, take them out. This allows for more flexibility. Whether a leather cigar case has the tubes or not, I always prefer the ones with the individual finger slots. This keeps the cigars from bouncing about and getting damaged.

You can choose from alligator, ostrich, lizard, fine Italian leather, you name it. They come in tan, black, burgundy, brown, and more. Your choices are limited only by your imagination and pocketbook.

Silver and brass cigar travel case are also available. Depending on your budget and what you want, these can be quite expensive. If you're looking for something different or that special cigar gift, it may be worth considering. These are certainly strong enough to protect one's cigars and can be easily engraved.

There are also wood cigar cases. These can range from inexpensive mass-produced cases to the exquisite handcrafted cigar cases. The outside can be made of virtually any type wood (preferably hardwood) and the inside should be Spanish cedar, or at least have a Spanish cedar insert.

You should consider looking at some cigar travel cases if you plan on taking your cigars day trips. The investment you make will be made back in no time. Just think in terms of how much it would cost you over time to replace the crushed cigars which would inevitably occur.

There are some fine cigar cases to be had for a reasonable price. Check out a reputable online cigar shop or your local retailer.

Enjoy those smokes!
