Choosing a Cigar Travel Humidor Made Easy

Planning a trip and want to bring along your Java cigar collection? A cigar travel humidor needs to be seriously considered.

Any significant change in the environment in which your cigars are being stored can affect your handmade cigars. There can be a dramatic change in a relatively short period of time.

A travel humidor can minimize or eliminate the negative environmental effects and aid in protecting your valuable smokes.

Depending on the nature of your trip and what you'll be doing, will determine what kind of cigar travel humidor you purchase.

Going on business? Then a leather or leatherette bound travel humidor, like the one pictured here, may do just fine. This is easy to travel with and fits easily into luggage and most brief cases.

Whatever you choose, make sure the lid is secured safely by either a zipper or sturdy latch. These will get bumped around a bit, and the last thing you want is for your cigars to come flying out of your humidor.

One of my own personal travel humidors can be seen in the two pictures on the right.

As you can see, I chose one of sturdy construction, which can take quite a beating. This has been with me quite awhile and has weathered many a trip, both on the road and in the air. The latch is sturdy and has never opened by accident.

The inside is lined with spanish cedar and has a lip, which creates a good seal, and comes with a stick humidifier.

The cigar humidor humidifier actually is meant to sit in the humidor next to the cigars, but as you can see, I made some modifications.

I put velcro on the humidifier so it could be attached to the inside of the lid toward the back. I also took pieces of wood used in cigar boxes I had gotten and attached them in three places in the back bottom with velcro. These are situated perfectly, to allow the vents on the humidifier to remain open to do their job. The cigars also rest next to these pieces of wood, which keeps them from being crushed and smothering the humidifier.

If I ever get sick of my little invention, it's easy to remove, because it was all done with velcro.

Was this fun?....You bet it was!

You'll find yourself making your own adjustments and modifications from time to time. This adds to the fun and overall satisfaction derived from this most satisfying of hobbies.

With the information provided, you will be able to purchase a cigar travel humidor, which not only suits your own personal taste, but works effectively.

Bon voyage!
